Description
The adjusted Da Nang Master Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2045, was approved in 2021 by Vietnam's Prime Minister under Decision 359/QD-TTg. Prepared with international consultants for central Vietnam's principal coastal city, it organises growth into a polycentric structure of coastal and riverine nodes, balancing tourism development along the shoreline with high-tech industry, port logistics and a protected mountain-forest hinterland, and strengthening resilience to storms and flooding.
Significance
The plan illustrates Vietnam's state-approved master-planning system being used to steer a secondary city towards diversified, quality-led growth rather than unchecked coastal hotel development. Da Nang is frequently presented as a national model of orderly urbanisation and smart-city ambition, and the plan feeds Southeast Asian debates on balancing tourism economies, industrial upgrading and coastal risk in rapidly growing mid-sized cities.
