Description

A masterplan for the regeneration of the Greenwich Peninsula in south-east London, promoted by Hong Kong developer Knight Dragon with urban design by Allies and Morrison, consolidated in 2015. It reorganised earlier plans for the former gasworks peninsula around the O2 arena into a series of high-density, mixed-use neighbourhoods for over fifteen thousand homes, with a linear central park, a design district and new Thames-front public realm.

Significance

Greenwich Peninsula exemplifies the overseas-capital-led, high-density waterfront regeneration that reshaped London planning in the 2010s. It has featured in debates about affordable housing obligations, phased masterplanning under a single private landowner, and the character of new riverside quarters, standing alongside Nine Elms and the Royal Docks as a test of Thames-side city-making.
