Green corridor along river
Green/blue infrastructure in metro Monterrey
A green corridor project initiated from 2019 along the Río La Silla in the municipality of Guadalupe, part of the Monterrey metropolitan area in northern Mexico. The plan converts riverside land into a linear metropolitan park, combining ecological restoration of the river landscape with public space, paths and recreational facilities. It is a municipal initiative operating at the scale of a river corridor rather than a single site.
The project represents the arrival of green-blue infrastructure thinking in metropolitan Monterrey, an industrial city long characterised by car-oriented growth and scarce public space. It reflects a wider Latin American movement to reclaim urban rivers as linear parks, and contributes to debates about environmental equity and flood resilience in rapidly expanding arid-region metropolises.
