Core idea

Climate-positive waterfront district

Why it matters

Global reference for low-carbon urbanism

Description

Stockholm Royal Seaport (from 2009), built on a former port and gasworks, is one of Europe's largest sustainable urban development zones, with strict climate targets, smart grids, green roofs, and the goal of becoming fossil-fuel-free, on a dense mixed-use plan.

Significance

The Royal Seaport pushes the eco-district model toward whole-district climate neutrality and circular systems, serving as a large-scale testbed for the carbon-neutral city of the future.
