Description
A citywide statutory master plan prepared by the Municipality of Tel Aviv–Yafo and approved in 2016, setting the framework for the city's growth to mid-century. The plan channels substantial densification into corridors served by the emerging metropolitan light rail and metro network, while protecting the fabric of the White City and lower-scale neighbourhoods. It couples height and density allocations with policies for the public realm, employment districts and the seafront, replacing decades of piecemeal local plans with a single comprehensive instrument.
Significance
TA/5000 is significant as the first comprehensive statutory plan for Tel Aviv since the Geddes plan era, and as a clear Israeli example of transit-oriented densification policy. It has framed debates over high-rise development, housing affordability and heritage conservation in the country's economic core, and serves as a reference for statutory planning in other Israeli cities.
